This page is a still place. It is set aside so that a household may name, before the Lord and one another, those who have gone before us in faith. We keep no register on this page and record no names publicly — the rememberings that belong to each home stay in that home. What this page holds is the door: the reminder to remember, the words for when the words are hard to find, and the practices of the household in a season of grief.

A short prayer for the household

Lord Jesus Christ, who wept at the tomb of Thy friend and who gave Thy life that we might live, we bring Thee those we have loved and lost. Remember them, Lord. Bind up our sorrow with the certainty of Thy resurrection. Give us grace to grieve as those who have hope, and to comfort one another with the comfort wherewith we are comforted of Thee. Amen.

Practices for the family

• Light a candle. The Light a Candle Together room is a place to light one before the Lord for someone the household is remembering tonight.
• Read a psalm aloud. Psalm 23 has stood by every generation of the Church at the graveside. Read Psalm 23 in the Atlas.
• Pray the Lord’s Prayer. The prayer Christ taught us binds us to every household that has prayed it before. The Lord’s Prayer in 25 languages.
• Keep the family register. The Family Register is the household’s own book. Names of those we remember belong there, kept where they are loved.
• Take your time. There is no hurry in grief. The Lord is a slow and steady comfort.
