The story
One day, Jesus was sitting on a hillside, and there were many people around Him. He wanted to tell them about the kingdom of heaven — about how God's good work grows in the world. So He picked up a very small seed and held it out.
"Look," He said. "This is a mustard seed. It is the smallest of all the seeds in your garden. You can barely see it in the palm of your hand."
The people leaned in.
"But when it is planted," Jesus said, "and given time and rain and sun, it grows and grows and grows. It becomes taller than a man. It becomes so tall that the birds of the air come and rest in its branches."
The kingdom of God, Jesus said, is like that.
It does not usually begin with a loud sound. It begins with a small yes. A small prayer. A small kindness. A small child telling the truth. A small mother teaching a small psalm.
It looks like almost nothing at the start. But God is the gardener, and God grows what He plants. And someday the birds of the air — the whole world of neighbors and family and strangers and children yet to come — will find rest in what began as one small seed of faith today.
So do not be afraid of your small yes. Plant it. Water it. Watch what God will grow.
