The Story Behind the Hymn
The 23rd Psalm is the hymn every household eventually needs. This hymn takes the single sentence — He restoreth my soul — and lets the Shepherd sing it back over the noise of the week. When the miles have worn the peace away, the Shepherd leads to a green-still place. When the years have bruised what was tender, the Shepherd restores. This is not a hymn for the strong. It is a hymn for the tired.
