Verse 1
When the Lord comes near, the mountains bow low,
And the rivers grow still and the valleys are shown;
When the Lord comes near, the household grows quiet,
And the smallest of hearts learns the greatness of home.
Verse 2
When the Lord comes near, the door of the sanctuary
Swings open on hinges that never grow rust;
The Lamp that was set for the household in Bethel
Is set once again for the household of trust.
Bridge
When the Lord comes near,
Draw near, draw near,
For the God who was far is the Father here,
And the household is safe when the Lord comes near.
Verse 3
So let this household kneel down at the sunset,
And rise with the morning in fear of his name;
The Lord who was walking in gardens with Adam
Is walking with us on this evening the same.
Bridge (Repeat)
When the Lord comes near,
Draw near, draw near,
For the God who was far is the Father here,
And the household is safe when the Lord comes near.
