A gentle morning flow for the household
A single unhurried arc of prayer for the household in the morning — short enough to keep, deep enough to matter. Six movements, each with three KJV Scripture options so the same guide can carry the household for many mornings. Choose one Scripture from each step. When time is scarce, one movement is a whole prayer.
The oldest rhythm of Christian prayer is not a script: it is Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication. Around that ancient arc we place an opening, a Scripture reading, and a Trinitarian close.
Step 1 · Opening
Direct thy prayer, and look up
Take one slow breath. Say the opening verse aloud. Let it be the first thing the household says today.
“My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.”

Step 2 · Adoration
Who God is
Before asking, adore. Name one thing about God — his holiness, his mercy, his kindness. Say the verse aloud, and let it be enough.

Step 3 · Confession
A clean heart
Confess what needs confessing before the day carries it forward. Silent or spoken, be honest. Then trust the promise.

Step 4 · Thanksgiving
A grateful house
Name three things — small things count. Breath. Bread. The face of a family member. Then say the verse.

The day's needs
Bring the day's needs plainly: the household, the work, the ones who are hurting. Ask, and do not be afraid to ask.

Step 6 · Scripture reading
A short passage for the road
Read a short passage aloud. Let it be brief. One of the following is a good starting point; over time, follow the household's own reading plan.
Read a psalm — try Psalm 23, Psalm 27, or Psalm 121.

Closing
A Trinitarian Amen
End as the household has ended morning prayer for two thousand years — in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. One of the closing blessings below fits the mood of most mornings.

For families with young children
The same six steps can be prayed in a child's own words. Read the verse aloud (Cormorant, unrushed), and follow with the child's simplified line. It is short on purpose. Small children learn prayer by praying it, not by studying it.
- Opening. “Good morning, God. I am here.”
- Adoration. “You are holy. You are kind. You made the morning.”
- Confession. “I am sorry for the things I did wrong. Please forgive me.”
- Thanksgiving. “Thank you for my family, my bed, and my breakfast.”
- Petition. “Please help me today. Please be with the people I love.”
- Closing. “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
